Lt Col Gerald Biddle Warton (USAF Retired), age 84, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013 in Bend, Oregon. Gerald (Gerry) was born April 19, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to George B. and Dorcas A. Warton. He graduated from William Howard Taft High School in Norwood Park, Illinois in 1947. He attended Illinois College and graduated from McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois in 1951. He enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduation and retired in 1975 after 24 years of service. He served in the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War, along with many other duty stations around the world. Gerry married Patricia Louise (Moser) Flathers on May 25, 1980 in Burns, Oregon. Gerry and Patty traveled and lived in many locations, including Redmond, Oregon, Las Vegas, Nevada, Meridian, Idaho, and Bend, Oregon where Gerry passed away. Gerry grew up loving horses, and enjoyed anything connected to ranching. He loved spending time with family, a game of golf, and antiquing. He spent many hours on his family geneology project. He was an active member of the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans, the River Rats and was a 4-H leader for many years. He was known for his hearty laugh, and quick wit. Gerry approached any new project with gusto, as he did with his group of beer making friends. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Patty, a sister, Georgia Lee Olson (Evan) of Prospect Heights, Illinois, five children; George Warton (Julia) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Lauri Askew (John) of Thurman, Iowa, Robert Warton (Gwen) of Mayetta, Kansas, Robert (Butch) Flathers of Bend, Oregon and Sherri Young (Gary) of Eugene, Oregon; thirteen grandchildren; Matt , John, Greg Warton, Nathan Peterson, Davis, Riddick , Rowan, Ryker Warton, Erin , Courtney , Kelsey , Zach Flathers,and Brittany Boyer; two great-grandchildren Jack and Bella Warton; and many other loving nieces, nephews and relatives. A Celebration of Life will be held at Aspen Ridge retirement center in the Great Room in Bend, Oregon on August 17, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Military burial will be October 7, 2013 at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetary, Leavenworth, Kansas. Memorial donations may be made to the Holston United Methodist Home for Children, P.O. Box 188, Greeneville, TN 37744.
