Luke 8:19-21 Then came to him [his] mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press. And it was told him [by certain] which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee. And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it. Meeting a lot of people lately that try to convince me that they are a Christian in good standing with the Lord, more often than not this has taken place while cussing at me and trying to bully me because of the mistakes of other preachers. Folks even as a lost man who was very accomplished at the art of cussing someone out, I had enough respect and self control not to cuss out the preacher. And just a side note, we all put our pants on one leg at a time and are capable of multiple mistakes as well as the same mistakes of others. If God held your mistakes against you the way you do others I guess we would have to redefine who Christ was. Since He did forgive, I reckon for us to be Christ like or a Christian we should do likewise. Secondly these folks try to convince me that they are directly in the will of God for their lives and have a better relationship with God than most in the church while hardly ever if at all stepping foot in the door of a church. I believe that this passage has a lesson for us all. Much like our text, there are a lot of folks today standing on the outside while claiming some super relationship with the Savior. They have the right words, they hang around the right people, and they have the right titles. Yet their claim of relationship doesnt add up when compared to Gods Word. The kinship that Christ recognized wasnt written on a piece of paper nor did it rest in familiarity with who He was, but rather He recognized those who HEAR the word of God, and do it. If Christ said this of His mother and brethren, what makes you think that He would be any easier on any of us? While He didnt disown His kin folks(thank God), it is obvious from this passage of scripture that they had absolutely no privileges to His attention based on who they were. Their choosing to remain outside cost them privileges that those on the inside were privy to. Much of the New Testament located in the Bible that these folks claim to read was written to churches, not people looking at sunrises, sunsets, lakes, rivers and deer stands claiming to be closer to God because theyre on the outside. I reckon if God thought it was important enough to include local New Testament churches in His word, it ought to be important enough for us to attend one. Find a church in the morning and HEAR Gods Word. Calvary Baptist Church is a place where the presence of God is felt and the love of God is shown to all who attend. Come and reach your full potential for Christ while serving and worshipping with us. Come be a part of the family of God.
