Lunchspeak eNews - 25th September Today’s meeting was opened by LunchSpeak president Campbell Thomson who welcomed returning guest ‘David’ along to LunchSpeak Toastmasters. Campbell then introduced Toastmaster of the day, Sophie Gibson who used the theme: ‘Animal personality: fact or fiction?’ Sophie was well prepared and made fitting bridging comments between each of the speakers. First up was Kylie Robinson with an animal joke about crossing the road. She managed to get an enthusiastic response from the audience. The first speaker was Joe Chapman who spoke from the Competent Communicator manual project 5, your body speaks. His speech was titled: ‘A picture speaks a thousand words’. Joe spun an interesting yarn accompanied by suitable body gestures. The second speaker was Louise Booth who also spoke from the Competent Communicator, with project 6, vocal variety. Her speech was titled: ‘My Toastmasters Experience’. She spoke a little about the TM training she received in Wellington the previous weekend. She mentioned the values of TMI which are: integrity, respect, service and excellence. Her speech could have been improved by more practice and with more vocal variety. Campbell Thomson ran the Table Topics session and had topics for: Nanette McKendry, Ray Leckie, guest David, Wim van Schie and Kylie Robinson. Richard Brockwell evaluated Toastmaster Sophie, Sara Larcombe evaluated Joe’s speech, Chris Jones evaluated Louise Booth’s speech, Margaret Dempster was the table topics evaluator and the general evaluator was Louise Shanks. Wim van Schie was the Timekeeper, Tim Gosling was the grammarian & ah counter, Jack Tang was the Competent Leader evaluator and Ray Leckie was the vote counter. Next week’s Toastmaster is Richard Brockwell. Margaret Dempster will be absent, so Louise Booth will be Table Topics master, Nanette McKendry will be the Joke master and do an evaluation.
