Enlarged 1866 for Mr. Merritt (rococo drawing room); purchased by the notorious Jay Gould in 1880, who added new Herter Brothers furniture and (possibly) LaFarge stained glass, as well as new decorative trim. All of this material is still at Lyndhurst and is displayed to show a uniquely layered history that has survived intact.
