MAADA BIO MAY LOSE POPULARITY BECAUSE OF RUDE ASSOCIATES By Umaru Sitta Turay USA One of the only adage that will never fade in my mind is the one the greatest disciplinarian at the Queen of the Rosary School (QRS) in Bo, Ms. Songu, used to tell her students; “Show me your friend, I will tell you who you are”. That is the lesson Maada Bio have not adopted that will make him loss the opportunity to be democratically elected as President of Sierra Leone. When in 2005 SLPP converged in Makeni to elect their leader and flag-bearer, Maada Bio was on top of the list to win that very important election. He came second at the final results. That result came about because of the people he pitched tent with at that time. Musa Tarawally and others did a very good spade work that nearly made Maada Bio to win that election. I say important election because it is the election that has its sequel to bring the APC in power today. What the APC did then was to infiltrate the SLPP by ushering so many SLPP delegates from the North to vote Berewa as the flag-bearer knowing very well that the people of Sierra Leone at that time will prefer Ernest to Berewa. The same thing is happening right now in the Maada Bio camp. The rampant rudeness and misbehavior that is surrounding Maada Bio right now may not be originally from typical members of the SLPP but either new people that have just got on board the political train or paid persons that are deliberately doing such act to drop the popularity of Maada Bio. There are some of these guys that were born to be rude and their marrows do tell there is always reason for them to be rude and misbehave. There have been very few people in that country that has not suffered humiliation from some supporters of Maada Bio. Even people who have been identified to be close supporters and sponsors of Maada have gone through molestations at one point. People like Kanja Sesay, Abbass Bundu, John Tucker, Kalilu Totangi and many more core supporters of Maada Bio have gone through humiliation even if it was resolved in an indoor setup. The rampant insult and molestation that has become a norm in and around Maada Bio’s camp will cost him his popularity. As for these people, no one is entitled to criticizing Maada Bio and for that reason people’s parents are at the mercy of them in insult. I want to challenge anyone of those that are cursing and humiliating SLPP members and others that they don’t even know the SLPP slogan or core strategy of election. What will it cost to be respectful to an opponent? What will one become if you approach an opponent with smiles and openness? Is it not foolish of these guys to go around insulting everyone? In politics, it is said that even if it is the murderer of your mother that will make you win, you should make friends with that person. That is not the case in the recent Maada Bio camp. No human being is being spared by them. No amount of cajoling will make them behave like human beings. They are beasts and that is what they will remain to be. They are not at all like human beings from a political planet that is aiming to winning the highest office of a country. They are like vagabonds drawn from unruly parts of the world. They are nothing less than animals that will not follow instructions. I have never seen such rude behavior in a campaign that is supposed to caress people’s back so that they will get support and vote a candidate. The disappointing thing is, they have not got the fortitude of their stomach to stand in the way of their most appropriate opponents which is the APC but bent on molesting SLPP members so that people will start thinking that Maada Bio is not the one that will bring “Unity” in the SLPP. The disheartening thing is that Maada Bio is sitting there watching these vagabonds making all kinds of derogative remarks on respectable members of the SLPP and he is not stopping them. What Maada is forgetting is that, we are closely watching his pattern of rule through his attitude and ability to put in control those supporters that are claiming to be “core supporters”. If he cannot make these supporters become respectful to members of the party what will happen when he is elected as president? Those are the reasons that some members of the SLPP agreed for the 2012 elections to be rigged by the APC. Otherwise, the election ended in favor of Maada Bio but when the results were being moved from Wellington to SLBC some senior members of the SLPP agreed with Ernest for the results to be changed. According to my intelligence, they were afraid that people surrounding Maada Bio will manhandle them when results favor Maada. That fear is still existing and many people are silently operating for Maada not to win presidential elections in that country. This has to change!! It should change like the one using a Gambian national as a campaign tool near Maada Bio. At some point I standup in my room and ask if these guys know that Sierra Leoneans will be opposed to a Gambian woman becoming the first lady of Sierra Leone. Whether you say it is sectionalism or racism, nationals of Sierra Leone will refuse to see a Gambian as their first lady especially the women of that country. The women have started making comments like “how Salone woman den don done” (meaning, is there no Sierra Leonean woman any more). I am astonished by the way I am seeing these same rude guys juxtaposing Maada Bio and that Gambian woman (I am made to understand that she is a Gambian). If it is true, will that be a strategy to win elections? Using an unpopular person to campaign for a person already popular. I thought these guys will try to clean the minds of Sierra Leonean voters about Maada Bio being tagged as a killer by the APC. That is what I am expecting these ragtag supporters will be concentrating on and not insulting, humiliating and harassing SLPP supporters. If they believe themselves they should have confronted the APC guys and not dedicated and selfless supporters of the SLPP. Talking about Maada Bio’s new love, this should have been an indoor game and it should have been adopted by core supporters only if they notice Maada Bio is in extreme love. Even at that, they should have made all efforts to make him change his mind and that he does not deserve being married to a foreigner at this time. He is supposed to have kept himself that way until he becomes president if at all he cannot find another person that will replace the love he is having for this Gambian woman. This is hard fact! When I look at the way pictures have been posted all over the internet about Maada Bio and this Gambian woman, I feel nasty. I feel as if something has gone wrong with these ragtag supporters of Maada Bio and I also say Maada does not deserve it. The thing is, Maada should have the foresight to know that his supporters are not doing him any good. Instead he has been revealing a hidden weakness that most of us did not know before this time. Religiously supporting politicians in Sierra Leone should come to a complete end now. We should start looking at our country as one that deserve good leadership and not “one-way” support. I have been a complete supporter of Maada Bio and I am still a complete supporter of Maada Bio but the facts has to be said and in the open. I don’t care what anyone will say after reading this piece and that is because my conscience is quite clear that I am spewing out a bile that is worthy to make Maada Bio a better person. Now that Maada Bio has not been ascended to power is the time to tell him the fact at his face. I am somehow disappointed that I have not seen what I have been looking for in Maada since he lost elections. He has been carried away with very low actions that does not even worth one penny. This style of visiting the UK hundred times a month does make any sense. I told one of these ragtag supporters one time that they are lucky I am on the same isle with them otherwise I would have done some real analyses of Maada Bio’s frequent visit to the UK. This is the time to stay in Sierra Leone and unify the party and in the process influence a very strong opposition in the country. It is not time to be perambulating all over the place in the name of a woman. What will that mean? Maada the young people need your presence in Sierra Leone, so do the women, children and old ones. You need to be on top of situation and not submit yourself to inexperienced folks that knows nothing other than insulting people. Know that when you contest for the SLPP leadership you are the symbol of hope and for that reason what you have around you should speak out that “yes indeed you are the symbol of hope”. For the past time I have been observing Maada and his camp, they have refused to get to people so that they will bring some unity. I see that as a severe weakness and leadership incapability. Leaders are people that lead people with open hearts and mind. It seem as if that has been lacking in Maada Bio recently. He cannot bring people together. I have also observe that he is or his boys and girls are thinking the politics of Sierra Leone is a Bo School game versus Ahmadiyya. Not at all!!! This is a national issue that is hinging on people’s livelihood. Isn’t it funny for just few people to surround Maada and start thinking that they are king makers and for that reason will insult everyone that attempts to oppose Maada? It is also not a soldier politics that we are practicing right now. It is a democratic system that is based on people not forceful acts. Maada change the strategy or else you will lose very soon. Get it right or get it out…………..This is SITTA TURAY THE GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
