MACFARLANE DELIVERS VITAL FUNDING FOR BREAKAWAY TOOWOOMBA Federal Member for Groom Ian Macfarlane has delivered on a pre-election commitment handing over a cheque for $300,000 to Breakaway Toowoomba Inc today. The money will be used towards the new respite facility titled Breakaway on Bridge which is expected to be fully operational by March. “The Coalition understands how valuable this service is and the necessity for it across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs, Federal Member for Groom Ian Macfarlane said. “The new facility is purpose built and will provide much-needed support for people with a disability and their families. It has an emergency wing and the capacity to cater for overnight respite. “The benefits wouldn’t be limited to Toowoomba, as Breakaway supports families across the Darling Downs and South West Queensland. “The completion of a new respite centre is a long-term goal for Breakaway. “It’s been an eight year project and I commend the board for their ongoing efforts to raise the necessary funds to make it a reality,” Breakaway on Bridge will take over from the current facility in Glenvale, which is leased by Breakaway. “Between now and February everything will be transferred from Glenvale to Bridge street,” Breakaway Toowoomba Executive officer Dave Boden said. “The Bridge street facility will be a more central location and much more accessible for those who need assistance.” Mr Macfarlane believes this new facility is a big boost for disability services in the electorate of Groom. “I’m very proud to support a facility like this in my electorate and no doubt it’s going to support so many families for a long time to come.”
