MAJOR UPDATE: Lengthy but please read..... First.....snow will - TopicsExpress

MAJOR UPDATE: Lengthy but please read..... First.....snow will end soon, but the winds will not!! We now have a new blowing/drifting concern to worry about. Winds however will not let up.....we are looking at winds from 20-30 mph all night long as temps once again go sub zero. Schools that are not delayed....will delay. Closings are a distinct possibility, depending upon local road conditions. Driving is going to be very tricky now through Thurs afternoon....and temps/wind chills are going to be brutal. WE TURN OUR ATTENTION TO THE WEEKEND......and things are rapidly becoming more clear. And folks......take this seriously...... We have the potential to see two....2 fairly strong Clippers with significant wind with each. Items to note: We already have a moderate snow pack in almost all locations. We are going to be bitterly cold over the next couple of days. Roads are already not good. Ditches are already full of snow in many spots. Snow piles are high. None of this is going to melt before the weekend.....or next weekend for that matter. The definition of a BLIZZARD is NOT mega inches of snow. It is the combination of snow with winds of at least 35 mph creating white out conditions and visibility of less than 1/4 mile. There is all model agreement on the first Clipper, and it looks to affect us head on. There is some differences in the models for the second one (Sunday). One model brings it overhead.....like the first one. 2 others take it more north of Central Indiana....but still very close.....so that second one needs monitored closely!! Thus, I am issuing a BLIZZARD WATCH (my issuance).....for the northern 3/4 of Indiana for Friday night through Sat afternoon.....and that may need to be extended until Monday AM..... Snowfall, with very strong winds look to create BLIZZARD CONDITIONS across most of Indiana late Friday into Saturday. How much snow?? Right now, I would say 4-6 with Clipper 1. Time Frame: Snow starts by midnight....becomes heavy from 3AM-9AM. CONSIDERABLE Blowing and Drifting is a certainty. Winds will be gusting in excess of 40 mph (and that is a conservative estimate) I dont have to tell you how high the drifts will be.....driving wont happen. If the Sunday Clipper indeed moves through this area....we could add another 3-5 or more, on top.....with winds very similar to Fri Late/Sat. This 1-2 punch.....IF IT HAPPENS.....could once again paralyze/strand people once again. I AM VERY CONFIDENT IN CLIPPER 1. It will follow the Clipper Parade that we have seen. CLIPPER 2 HAS QUESTIONS WITH IT.....BUT!!!----If we only get 4-6 new snow....along with winds like what look very, VERY STRONG......we shut down travel for 1-2 days. ***My goal is not to panic people needlessly. My goal is to give as much advanced warning as humanly possible.....and after watching things for 2 days now, I think it is time to alert people to PLAN ON BLIZZARD CONDITIONS FOR AT LEAST A PART OF....IF NOT THE ENTIRE WEEKEND.....before we turn BARBARICALLY COLD ONCE AGAIN!!! DO NOT --- DO NOT.....wait until Friday night to prepare!!!!!! TAKE NOTICE....and use THURSDAY AND EARLY FRIDAY as your time to plan if you can..... IF THERE ARE CHANGES TO THIS FORECAST.....I WILL LET YOU KNOW ASAP!!!!! We go well below zero several mornings in a row beginning late weekend.....we dont go above freezing, I DONT THINK....for the foreseeable future! (There is a chance we inch above 32 on Sunday for a few hours, but I wouldnt hold my breath.... Overnight: Snow ends....Blowing and Drifting HUGE CONCERN OVERNIGHT!! Lows -4 to -8 Winds Chills -20 or lower. Thursday: Cloudy/Flurries/COLD!!! Blowing snow concern continue...Highs 3-6 Lows -14 to -18 WIND CHILLS -20 to -35 Friday: SUNNY BUT COLD!!!!!! THE WINDS DONT LET UP!!!! Highs: 18-22 Lows: 15-19 (nearly steady) Snow arrives late....and becomes moderate/heavy after 2-3AM. Saturday: Snow ends but the winds continue..... Highs: 27-30 Lows: 5-8 Sunday: BIG ???????????? AT THIS POINT..... Highs: 28-32 Lows -3 to 0 I will hold off on specifics for next week....but it doesnt look terribly snowy at this point early in the week. Here are temp projections: Mon Highs 2 to 7 Lows -14 to -19 Tues Highs 5 to 9 Lows -5 to -8 Wed Highs 17-20 Lows 0-5
