MALAWI GOVERNMENT TO CONSTRUCT A SPECIAL NEEDS COLLEGE Government has unveiled plans to construct Special Needs Education College in the capital Lilongwe to train specialist teachers for the needs of learners with varying ranges of physical and intellectual challenges. Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Disability Fletcher Zenengeya disclosed this in Blantyre on Wednesday during the signing Ceremony of Lilongwe Declaration on Intellectual Disability. Zenengeya said the project will greatly compliment a Special Needs Technology, a program currently being implemented by the Ministry of Education. Said Zenengeya: “In view of the challenges faced by learners with special needs, the Malawi Government is constructing Malawi Institute of Special Needs Education College. The aim of this project is to ensure that there are adequate and qualified specialist teachers to meet the needs of learners with special needs, including those with intellectual challenges so that they also access appropriate and quality education.”
