The two video links mentioned above demonstrate the contrast between the Indian perspective of patriotism and the British or Western one: how we worship the nation and thus transmogrify the originally noble feeling into Manoj Kumar-type crassness, in contradistinction to the Britons’ relaxed patriotism. The sample I have selected to represent desi patriotism is deliberately extreme and typically from a Manoj Kumar movie. Generally, Hindi movies with patriotic themes are of two kinds—bad and very bad. Manoj Kumar’s works belong to the second category; and this video is undoubtedly the clowning glory of his long career devoted to the sewa of Bharat Mata.
