MARCH 21 The Future Starts Now What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you’ll have it all—life healed and whole. 1 Peter 1:3–5, THE MESSAGE There is so much to see and say in these verses. I love how Eugene Peterson translates that we’ve been “given a brand-new life and have everything to live for.” Do you believe that? Do you know just how fortunate we are? This is something for all of us to embrace, not just with head knowledge but deep in our heart. Not only do we have the promise of a life filled with God here and now, but we also have the hope of heaven. We in the church have sometimes been criticized that we are so “heavenly minded that we are no earthly good.” Perhaps that is true of some, but what is true is that Christians who keep their eyes on Jesus are of the utmost good here on earth. By His Spirit, we have been entrusted with this season in history. For those who carry a pain or sorrow today, I affirm that God is keeping a careful and loving watch over you right now. And I encourage you to keep your eyes up, your expectation high, for our God has overcome the world. There is also great delight to know that day is coming when every tear is dried and we are healed and whole! Father God, we are so fortunate to have you, for without you, we can do nothing, our life would have no meaning.
