MARKS BEST MOVIE SONGS EVER (1955-99) COUNTDOWN ... NO. 90 LET IT BE–THE BEATLES (#1, 1970, Let It Be) The Beatles 19th No. 1 hit is the biggest of their five songs in this countdown and the only one within the Top 100. Its the title track from the documentary that was filmed from late December 1968 until the finish of what would be the Abbey Road album. It showed the strife that had already developed within the band by this point with various conflicts going on, one notable one between Paul and George. But it also showed the very last performance in front of a live audience in January 1969 of the Fab Four on the roof of their Apple Records studio. Let It Be was written mainly by Paul McCartney as a tribute to his mother named Mary, who died when he was 14, but served as inspiration during the tense period of recording with the other three Beatles. And what a debut Let It Be had: It was the then-highest debuting song EVER on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 21, 1970, at No. 6 and held that spot for over 25 years until the siblings Jackson (Michael and Janet) debuted at No. 5 in June 1995 with Scream. Let It Be continues to be an immensely popular song for McCartney in concert and he sang it alongside Billy Joel in Joels concert at Shea Stadium in 2008, the last show ever held there. The other Beatles songs in this countdown included A Hard Days Night at No. 127, The Long And Winding Road (also from Let It Be) at No. 131, And I Love Her at No. 148 and Help! at No. 154. Thoughts, memories? Enjoy!
