*** MARTHAS BIBLE *** written by Bonnie McGill In the dim lights of a cabin, A man sat all alone, He took down his tattered bible , From a mantel made of stone. And the flicker of a candle, Lit the picture of a girl, And the little baby in her arms, The only treasure in his world. And the snow outside fell softly, As a man sat all alone, And counted yet, another Christmas, And realized how old hed grown. He remembered his wife Martha, And their little daughter Kate, And the night the fever took them. And how his heart might learn to hate. But he remembered Marthas bible, And how shed worn those pages thin, The first time that he opened it , He didnt know where to begin, He remembered telling Martha, While the angels all stood by, I dont know if I can make it, Without you by my side. And although her voice had faltered, And tears fell from her eyes, She said Youll find it in my bible, With the saviour Jesus Christ. It all began with the baby Jesus , Who was born on Christmas day. And he felt sure, somehow he saw Him, The night they carried her away. In the dim lights of a cabin, A man sat all alone, He took down his tattered bible , From a mantel made of stone. And the snow outside fell softly, As a man sat all alone , And counted yet another Christmas, And realized how old hed grown.
