MATCH REPORTS 18/8/2013 – In the Amateurs, both teams were looking for solid performances going into a couple of big weeks as they travelled to Miles Park to take on Sporting Warriors. EUFC have never beaten their arch-rivals away, but have seen some epic matches played in the past. The Reserves started the game positively, as the energy of Charlie Burridge, Craig Allen and Jimmy Grant caused problems for the home defence. It took the away side 16 minutes to start scoring, as Steven Finch carried on his excellent form with a great finish across the keeper after cutting in from the left, 1-0 EUFC. 2 minutes later, Craig Allen added a second as he latched onto an excellent through ball from Jimmy Grant to smash past the keeper at the near post, 2-0 EUFC. Ellenbrook were in the ascendancy, with the pace and crossing of Allen causing chaos for the home defence. They failed to clear a deep cross and a grateful Finch was on hand to apply a simple finish, 3-0 EUFC. Charlie Burridge was causing problems on the left, and his efforts were rewarded as he controlled an Allen cross-field ball to jink past the defender and bend his shot past the keeper, 4-0 EUFC. Finch completed his hat-trick with 5 minutes left of the first half; Jordan Hogan won the ball in midfield and fed Allen, who supplied a great splitting ball for Finch to flick the ball with the outside of his boot past an onrushing keeper. The home side had chances of their own, but the backline of Eddie Grant, Paul Colliver, Josh Fanchi and Steve Meacham kept them at bay. HT 5-0 EUFC. The second half was a continuation of the first, and it took 5 minutes for the Brook to add to the tally. Finch raced onto a Vasch Moodley pass to hold off the defender to coolly slot past the keeper, 6-0. The duo of Hogan and Moodley were dominating the middle. Allen added another 15 minutes later from another Jimmy Grant pass, 7-0. Grant chipped in with 2 goals of his own; the first a dipping shot that the keeper couldn’t control and the second a gift as a poor goal kick landed at his feet and the returning shot hit the back of the net, 9-0 EUFC. The home side lost all discipline, which was typified by their No.3, who had spent several minutes flailing his arms and screaming at his team-mates as Ellenbrook hit on the counter. Minutes later, the player in question took his anger out on Aiden Smith. Just as Smith had skinned him to have shot on goal, the No.3 chopped him from behind, resulting in a red card and penalty to EUFC. Allen stepped up and completed his hat-trick. FT 10-0 EUFC. A good performance that showed our true attacking qualities and spirit. The First were looking for a similar performance, and it didn’t take long to open the scoring as Paul Mason set-up Olly Langdale to drill past the keeper in the 9th minute, 1-0 EUFC. The away side continued hitting the target, but the Warriors Keeper was making some excellent saves to keep them out. In the 24th minute, the Brook scored through Paul Williams as he rose highest to power his header from an Adam Kenna corner, 2-0 EUFC. 3 minutes later, the home team got a goal albeit from the head of an Ellenbrook player as a corner was knocked past his own keeper, 2-1. Warriors started to push hard, but Josh Howie and Chris Nolan were excellent as they defended well. Then in the 40th minute, a goal 4 years in the making as EUFC stalwart Howie was first to react to a saved Williams header to head past the keeper for his first competitive goal in the Blue shirt. The goal sent the travelling fans into ecstacy as chants of “Only one Josh Howie” echoed across Miles Park. HT 3-1 EUFC. The second half started at a lack-lustre pace for the away team, and they found themselves conceding an easy goal as a cross to the back post was met unchallenged by the Sporting striker, 3-2 EUFC. Williams restored the two-goal cushion as his thunderous strike sailed straight into the top corner after some determined work from Mason on the left, 4-2 EUFC. Williams completed his hat-trick as he met an Albert Grant cross to smash past the keeper in the 65th minute, 5-2 EUFC. The referee would award two penalties late on; the first for Ellenbrook as Sam Burridge converted for his first goal for the club; the second to Warriors as the striker was brought down in the box under a rash challenge. FT 6-3 EUFC. The boys got the job done and now look to a mouth-watering two weeks as they play the top 2, with the league title and promotion a real chance. In the Masters, Adam Garland scored a rare goal as he smashed the winner for the Div.2 boys against Quinns FC, winning 2-1. The Div.3 boys went down 4-1 to Quinns, but will be buoyed by a spirited second half performance. In the Women’s Metro, the girls lost 4-1 in a heated match against Olympic Kingsway. Well done to all those in the Blue and White this week.
