MAYOR CATAQUIZ SEEKS PPP PROJECT IN SINGAPORE TRIP San Pedro, Laguna - Mayor Lourdes S. Cataquiz seeks to lure foreign investors to come to San Pedro under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme as she presented her priority programs under her San Pedro Urban Renewal (SPUR) Program before the participants of the “Effective Urban Infrastructure Programming Course”, a multi-Asian city planning conference held recently in Singapore. “We are following President Aquino’s national development strategy of pursuing big projects under the PPP scheme, hence, we decided to be part of this international gathering sponsored by the ADB Cities Development Initiatives for Asia (CDIA) and the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs”, she explained upon her arrival from her foreign trip. Presenting to mayors and public infrastructure managers from seven other Asian cities as well as to urban planning experts from Singapore, United States and ADB, Mayor Cataquiz highlighted her plan for a state-of-the art Integrated Water Filtration and Waste Water Treatment Facility to address the issues of obsolete technology and limited capacity of current bulk water supply in San Pedro and the potential water crisis which the city will face in the next 10 to 15 years when the city’s population is projected to reach 500,000. While in Singapore, Mayor Cataquiz also participated in a round table discussion (RTD) jointly organized by the ADB-CDIA and DBS Bank of Singapore and participated in corporate executives from DBS and other Singaporean companies engaged in PPP projects in Singapore and overseas. With Mayor Cataquiz in this multi-Asian city conference were her fellow Mayors and urban planners from the cities of Bhopal (India), Bogor (Indonesia), Kandy (Sri Lanka), Samarang (Indonesia), Tangekang (Indonesia) and Ulaanbataar (Mongolia). The conference tackled priority development issues on water, education, health, poverty alleviation, mass housing, public transportation, solid waste management, tourism, traffic management and infrastructure development among others. Mayor Cataquiz was also briefed on development programs and strategies of Singapore which transformed the city state from a third world into a first world country, and earning the distinction of having the Asia’s most robust economy and most modern infrastructures. She thus obtained valuable inputs on applicable technology, programs and projects for her medium to long term development plans under her SPUR Program.
