MCCS MARINE & FAMILY-RESOURCES NEW JAPANESE LANGUAGE & CULTURAL CLASS FOR YOUTH & TEENS FOR AGES 10-17 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MCCS Marine and Family Programs-Resources is offering Basic Japanese Class for Youth and Teens, ages 10-17, during the summer to provide participants the opportunity to learn the Japanese language and culture through the use of games and interactive activities. Games introduced in class are traditional Japanese games, which can teach participants about cultural and language at the same time. There are some VERY IMPORTANT NOTES regarding these classes. They include: 1. Registration is required and on a First-Come, First-Served basis with completed registration (Permission Slips/Liability Forms) required before Youth/Teen is registered/signed-up for these classes. 2. Class size is strictly limited to 15 Youth and Teens. 3. These classes are for Youth and Teens ages 10-17 only. 4. The required forms are available at each Marine & Family Program-Resources Center. Contact information is listed below. One of the aims of this class is to enable the participants to use the language in everyday situations, should the child ever have the opportunity to interact and communicate with native Japanese speakers. The class provides an opportunity for realistic learning and engages the children in imaginative roleplaying games at the end of each lesson. These games and activities will provide a framework and incentive to use the words they learned in everyday situations and also help them have fun using the Japanese language. Class size is limited to 15 for each class. These classes will be open for youth and teens between ages 10 and 17 only. Each two-day session will have different themes, so participants can sign up for as many sessions as they want. Each session will have: * Brief overview of basic Japanese syllabary * Basic Japanese pronunciation * Useful phrases * Learning Themes - Shopping - At restaurants - Asking for directions - Japanese language greetings and making friends - Japanese etiquette - Cultural fun - and more! Japanese games include: Jan-Ken-Pon, Fukuwarai, Karuta, Amida kuji, and much more!.
