MEDICAL UPDATE: FOR ALEX LOVETT, FRIDAY 06-28-2013 DAY 290 CONDITION: GOOD, Level 5 on the Rancho Los Amigos Scale VISITORS: YES TO VISITORS, BUT PLEASE NO ONE THAT IS EVEN A LITTLE SICK Location: HOME 74 HIBBERD DR. Room: ALEX’S Alex had a busy day, still has the headache he seems to have all the time. His headaches are not as bad as they were. Yesterday I left work at 1:00pm to get Alex to the Rehab Medicine Doctor down at the Valley. He wrote a prescription for Alex to have another swallowing study and to get Outpatient Physical Therapy. This will be in network for us; we will use the facility on the Kettering Southview Campus. Yaaaaaa. Alex had therapy today, he walked down the driveway and turned around at the road and walked back to the house. Dee Dee one of our new hires to help take care of Alex walked behind with a wheelchair. The Shower Lady or SOS came and gave Alex a bath in his bed. Mary went to work until about 8:30pm, after Dee Dee got here. Dee Dee was one of his STNA’s at Sycamore Glenn health Care. She took care of him on a regular basis there. Alex said he likes her; she takes care of me and makes sure I’m clean. We are hiring another health care giver to take care of Alex during the day also. Mary interviewed 3 people already and found some she likes. Alex said I peed in my diaper, I asked if he pooped his pants he said no I farted, still LOL. We went back to take care of his wet diaper and found a CODE BROWN also. I took care of his CODE BROWN also. I told him there is no excuse for not telling me before he Code Browns me. I told him to tell me and I would get him on the toilet. Even though Alex is at home, he still requires total care. He is dependent on somebody to feed him, get his drinks, give his medicines, bath him, change his depends, dress him, clean him up many times a day as he still does not ask for the urinal or potty all the time before he goes, he just does his business in his depends, then shakes the Nurse Call Bell for help for someone to come clean him up. He is very interested in his own personal hygiene; he does not want to be dirty. To learn about Rancho Los Amigos Scale / The Levels of Coma go to the following web site. Level V. is posted below. waiting/rancholosamigos.html V. Confused-Inappropriate, Non-Agitated A person at this level will: • be able to pay attention for only a few minutes; • be confused and have difficulty making sense of things outside himself; • not know the date, where he is or why he is in the hospital; • not be able to start or complete everyday activities, such as brushing his teeth, even when physically able. He may need step-by-step instructions; • become overloaded and restless when tired or when there are too many people around; have a very poor memory, he will remember past events from before the accident better than his daily routine or information he has been told since the injury; • try to fill in gaps in memory by making things up; (confabulation) • may get stuck on an idea or activity (perseveration) and need help switching to the next part of the activity; • focus on basic needs such as eating, relieving pain, going back to bed, going to the bathroom, or going home. PRAISE THE LORD We give complete praise, honor and thanks to the Lord our Christ and Savior for his healing hands on our son. We know it is through his guiding hand and the highly trained MVH staff that Alex is getting better, and the Care Team at Sycamore Glen Health Center, and at Sycamore & Kettering Hospitals. We also thank all the people across the world that have been sending their love, support and prayers for Alex’s healing and recovery.
