MEET OUR #CAFparalympian: Amy Purdy “Never let defeat, defeat you! Anything’s possible.” Amy began snowboarding at age 15. At 19, she contracted bacterial meningitis and had less than a 2 percent chance of living. She was able to survive the infection, but lost both of her legs below the knee and would later require a kidney from her father. Amy couldn’t wait to return to snowboarding and was instrumental in advocating for the inclusion of adaptive snowboarding at the 2014 Paralympic Games. She is the only double amputee in the field of 11 women. All of her hard work paid off today when she was awarded the bronze medal! She has won three World Cup gold medals in adaptive snowboarding, and also wakeboards, skateboards, runs and rides mountain bikes. Amy is a motivational speaker, model and actress. She can now add dancer to her long list of accomplishments as she debuts on “Dancing with the Stars” Monday night! CAF is honored to have her as a spokesperson.
