Life and death weave the tapestry of our souls, threaded with colored fibers of love, of loss and of pain. Everyone’s pattern is different, some are sewn by faith in a supreme being, by science, or by the spiritual light of being reborn. Some are sewn with malice and indifference. If you live long enough, you will be affected by some loss in your life, whether it’s the symbolic loss of a job or a divorce, or the physical loss of a cherished family member, a beloved pet or a loyal friend. In the realm of mourning, no one’s pain supersedes another’s. And while we all mourn differently, the pain of grief will never completely go away because we have been conscripted into the brotherhood of loss. With our badge of grief, we are forever banded together into this consortium. A consortium of love that is the glue that helps to make us whole again when all the pieces fall apart. For grief shared is grief diminished. Let us now remember with fond memories our classmates who no longer are among us on this Earth, but are forever with us in our hearts. – Diana Sue Thomas Fasanella
