MITZVAH opportunity: This 14-year-old Japanese Akita has been - TopicsExpress

MITZVAH opportunity: This 14-year-old Japanese Akita has been rescued from an airforce base in Rehovot, where she had been exploited for OVER A DECADE, on a short chain and hardly any shelter from the sun, and even less attention. Way to ruin a good dog. A breeder actually recognized her as what is known as royal blood in the Akita scene (the so-called Kakusui line), which sadly also carries sebadentitis, a hereditary skin condition that manifests in horrible itches and skin damage (which is why these days reputable breeders avoid Kakusuis descendants). This would be treatable, but not a likely thing to happen for a chained and neglected guard dog. They have also allowed her to lose sight in one eye, and her vet suspects cancer. Plus, shes rather fat and fat dogs are never healthy. The IAF has made headlines for their awful treatment of guard dogs in the past, and promised, under public pressure, to fund the retirement of all its dogs. Sadly, this promise has been forgotten in Kittys as well as many other cases. Kitty is very old for her breed, and doesnt have long. She is however, still full of positive energy and hunger for life. Akitas arent suitable for just anyone, and very few in Israel or worldwide have experience handling this very primitive, ancient breed. She had been owned by an incompetent person once before who thought you could handle and train Akitas the same as any other dogs, and that was how she ended up chained up at the Tel Nof base. Now with the Richard Gere movie, I dreadfully expect more such tragedies. I am in touch with her foster home, and so far they are mostly in need for donations revolving around the hundreds for exams and tests to see if she has cancer, and what else she may be suffering from. After that, she deserves to have a real, permanent home one last time. I have already decided I will give her that, on ONE condition because, while Im experienced with the breed, have the time and the space, and am willing to care for an old, dying dog, I dont have the financial means. So Im trying to find people willing to crowd-fund Kittys retirement. Its not for long Im afraid, but she deserves every minute of it. Given the scorching sun and the short chain and the pouring winter rains, and the unspeakable loneliness of over a decade of living on the IAF base, she has worked harder than any proper military dog. She has contributed to this countrys safety in her own small way, as a guard dog for an airforce base. She has done so thanklessly, and paid a high price. Japanese Akitas may not be expressive, but they are highly sensitive none the less and suffer silently. Kitty has suffered for the safety of our soldiers for over a decade, during which hardly any of those people ever petted or played with her because they just assumed she was dangerous. Turns out she loves cuddles, the hopes of which were probably what had kept her going all this time. Please help spread the word so Kitty can have the retirement she deserves. Any and all donations made to the vet (phone number in the 1. pic), and later, if I get to adopt her as my 5th Akita, to me, will be greatly appreciated. Akitas used to serve and protect the samurai in Japan, and in a way so did Kitty. Except the Japanese adore these dogs and treat them with the utmost respect and care. Kitty deserves to feel like this for once in her life. I can be reached at 054-7755628 for any questions. Thanks for reading
