MIXED NETBALL – Runaway Bay Indoor/Outdoor Stadium Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) had trouble defending their third today against the attacking force of University of Technology Sydney (UTS), finishing the game with a score of 13:58. UTS attributed their win to rotating players more frequently, to ensure they were at their peak performance throughout the game. They said an early night and a good sleep in were all part of this mornings success. Having placed second at a few AUG, UTS are looking to break the hoodoo this year and take home that gold. TWENTY 20 CRICKET – Runaway Bay Cricket Club, Sports Drive. The boys bowled some successful wins today, seeing University of New South Wales (UNSW) and University of Western Sydney (UWS) both top of their pools. UNSW conquered University of Technology Sydney (UTS) with 95 for 4 against UTS’s 94 for 10. Griffith University (GU) were close to taking out UWS but they bowled in at 100 for 8 against Brisbane rivals 92 for 10. Will UNSW bat a golden ball all the way to the podium? ATHLETICS – 100m HURDLES USYD representative, Michelle Jenneke, won gold at the AUG women’s 100m hurdles final today. This National Junior Champion made headlines last year with her preliminary heat at the World Junior Championships, placing 5th. Congrats on yet another fantastic display of sporting talent at AUG, Michelle! FUTSAL – Mount Warren Sports Centre Australian Catholic University (ACU) was no match for the Brazilian blooded Monash team today, playing off in elimination rounds. Monash whitewashed ACU, 20 – 0 attributing their star performance to hard training leading up to AUG. Their team captain said they were thoroughly enjoying the Games and its fun atmosphere. They are soon to go up against University of New South Wales (UNSW), who have two Futsalroos players among them and are also top of the leader board in their pool. Will Monash continue to dominate, or will UNSW strike back? ULTIMATE – Runaway Bay West fields University of Western Australia (UWA) and Macquarie University (MQU) sat at the top of the leader board on thirteen points after yesterdays comps, but today Ultimate Frisbee has a new leader. Australian National University (ANU) challenged leaders Macquarie and won 11 : 10. Unfortunately University of Ballarat (UBAL) suffered the same fate, putting only three points on the scoreboard to ANU’s 11. ANU will be playing in the finals tomorrow, but what will Friday ultimately hold? HOCKEY – Keith Hunt Park, Musgrave Avenue University of Newcastle Div.1 ladies are refusing to back down, remaining undefeated in their pool. Smashing their way to the finals, they witnessed yet another day of victory with a win over Macquarie University.
