MLA Victor Nunghlung has asked to withdraw extra security forces from Ukhrul before any unwanted incident happens between the forces and the people of Ukhrul. Breaking the restriction of CRPC’s Section 144, a large number of people came out from their houses in a protest demanding a conclusion for the ongoing Indo Naga Peace talk. A massive gathering especially of women folks were on the street sides of Ukhrul from 11am in the morning till 1.30pm in the afternoon.People came out from Dungrei to Jessami Junction where police personnel were also stationed in large numbers. Schools and shops were also totally shut down today in Ukhrul. MLA Victor Nunghlung re-iterated to withdraw the extra deployment of state security forces as the region returns to normalcy.Some protestors clarified that today’s protest was not against the CRPC’s Section 144 but to bring about a solution for the never-ending Indo naga peace process. They said Indian Govt should respect the history and origin of Nagas and if Indo naga peace process can’t lead to a solution, then we have to look for other options.
