MO MBYE SIGNS DOTTED LINES IN NORWAY Published on Thursday, 22 August 2013 22:34 | Written by Sulayman Bah Norway’s Elverum has completed the signing of transfer target and Gambia’s Mohammed Mbye. The 24-year-olddefenderjoined from Swedish side Assyriska and his acquisition is expected to beef up a struggling Elverum’s kamikaze defence that has turned to a toy for uncompromising strikers for the past five games. Mohammed Mbye, capped with the Gambia Scorpions twice, decision to switch clubs has seen Gambian contingent in the Norway echelons soar with Tijan Jaiteh and Alagie Sosseh also trading in the same league. Sosseh is recruited by Frediskstad last week. While the duration of Mbye’s contract remains undisclosed, it is however believed to be a season-long deal. The Gambian who can operate also as a defensive midfielder first agreed a verbal contract in July after seeing limited appearance at his former club. The ex-Lille developmental ace has played five games for the club; winning 4-1 in their last league game, but still remain in hot waters with Elverum threatened by relegation. It is hoped with the signing of Mbye, the back-four could be consolidated in a desperate bid to avoid making the drop. At international level, Mbaye last featured for Gambia during the Scorpions humiliating test match defeat to football minnows Guinea Bissau in Portugal. Since that game that saw Gambia under barrage of derides for fielding just ten players, Mohammed made the fold of invited players but without action under former coach Paul Put’s reign.
