MONDAY, April 14 Monday in Holy Week John 12:3. The house - TopicsExpress

MONDAY, April 14 Monday in Holy Week John 12:3. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. This sentence probably reminds you of someone. A store clerk who spritzes too heavily. A coworker who overdoes the cologne. An eccentric aunt whose trail of Red Door perfume both precedes her arrival and trails long after the departure. I can see the disciples rolling their eyes. Mary takes out her best perfume, a whole pound of it, and rubs it on Jesus’ feet. Then she wipes his feet with her hair. It’s a bit over the top, and Judas gives voice to what others probably were thinking: What’s going on? Isn’t it kind of a waste? Yet Mary models extravagant hospitality. She gives her best to her guest, to her teacher and Lord. And she makes no apologies, nor will Jesus. How do we serve Christ in all people? Do we model the selfless giving of Mary or do we mask our selfishness with piety like Judas? Do we bring out the fine wine for guests or bury the best piece of chicken at the bottom of the bowl? Do we purchase the name brands for our family and generic for the clothing drive? Do we pick out the dented can of lima beans for the food collection or give the ravioli and beef stew? Do we give our best— or do we just stink? PRAY for the Diocese of Calcutta (North India) From ForwardMovement.org
