MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSEWERS •Why are hunters under constant attack? They are the largest group involved in wildlife conservation, they have the biggest stake in conservation “NO WILDLIFE NO HUNTING” •There are no scientific facts as it relates to the demise of any of the legally hunted species, in fact surveys conducted on hunters reveal that in the next 10 years hunter population would be decreased by 25 -40 %. The hunters in Trinidad and Tobago are going extinct. Hunters today less than 1% of the population of Trinidad & Tobago. •Moratoriums generate Marijuana Plantations which results in loss of Hunting grounds to Marijuana Plantations and continuous hunting as subsistence for planters. It has also been noted, that calls for extended close season, coincide with increase pressures on marijuana Plantations. •Hunting Associations promote sustainable hunting and directs great recourses, time, energy, research and money towards conservation of wildlife species. Moratorium would destroy this support. •What is the procedure for creating a moratorium? Is it a unilateral decision of the line Minister or does it involve consultations with stakeholders, advice from the Wildlife ConservationCommittee or other systems unknown? SEHA is unable to explain the procedure to its membership.
