POSITION DETAIL CURRENT JOB TITLE Surveyor JOB GRADE PROPOSED JOB TITLE Surveyor DEPARTMENT Technical Mining LOCATION Northern – Mozambique EMPLOYMENT STATUS Contract SALARY: Negotiable PURPOSE STATEMENT The purpose of this job is to contribute toward effective mine planning through accurate and timely survey of mining, infrastructure and support areas for the Client operation whilst meeting all internal and legislated, safety, health, environment and community requirements. POSITION DESCRIPTION MAIN OUTPUTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION – (Please provide a short description under each heading/output) TIME SPENT Key Functional Outputs 1. Survey Preparation and Prioritisation • Obtain Survey requirements from operations • Plan Survey requirements and priorities in consultation with the Mine Planning Superintendent • Maintain accurate plans of all mining areas including ponds, tailings areas, stripping, topsoil and waste dumps and stockpiles • Maintain accurate plans of all the infrastructure, roads rehabilitation areas and all service areas • Develop protocol for the auditing of survey activities undertaken by the Survey Assistants • Check and control Survey equipment to ensure effectiveness and optimal utilisation 2. Accurate and Timeously completed Surveys • Accurately and in a timely manner survey and mark survey controls onto the ground for each mining area • Carrying out survey pick-ups requested by exploration and the mine geology department • Complete Heavy Mineral Concentrate (HMC) surveys and produce accurate stock reports to assist with tracking mine production levels • Complete intermediate and final product surveys and produce accurate stock reports to assist with tracking MSP production • Complete tailings and final land form surveys and produce accurate plans to assist with mine planning and rehabilitation activities • Complete all surveys required in a timely manner for the month end close-out, and produce accurate reports to enable the month end reporting timetable to be met • Complete other surveys as required to agreed timelines • Verify the accuracy of survey data including measurements and calculations conducted by the Survey Assistants in line with survey protocol • Ensure that all Survey notes/instructions, calculations and drawings are filed for record purposes in line with regulatory requirements Key Management Outputs 1. Safety, Health & Environment Compliance • Implement safety awareness and reinforce safe working practices for all survey activities • Monitor area for potential risks and take appropriate action to prevent and manage risks • Drive compliance of self and Survey Assistants to Client Health, Safety & Environment, and environmental licensing & permitting requirements by implementing appropriate practices, standards and procedures • Proactively recommend improvements on safety policies 2. People efficiencies • Recruit and select competent Survey Assistants • Conduct induction and provide on-the-job coaching with new team members regarding survey processes, policies, procedures and performance standards • Ensure that employees have clear work expectations, targets and goals to work according to • Effectively manage employee performance and create opportunities for them to gain the competence for the work required • Manage poor performance in line with the specific process • Ensure that employees are managed in line with Mine’s human resource plans, policies and procedures (i.e. leave, remuneration, disciplinary procedures etc.) • Stand in for other Surveyor during his/her absence, and ensure effective handover upon his/her return 3. Cost effectiveness • Contribute toward effective departmental budgeting by providing estimates on expenditures related to materials, equipment, infrastructure and technology • Ensure adherence to financial and operational policies and procedures, and reduce wastage related to time of subordinates and utilisation of materials or equipment • Monitor planned vs. actual, and report on variances and cost efficiency 3. JOB EVALUATION CRITERIA A) KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS FORMAL EDUCATION 1. A recognised post school Surveying qualification: preferably a BSc in Surveying or as a minimum a National Diploma in Surveying (or equivalent international qualification) TECHNICAL/ LEGAL CERTIFICATION N/A EXPERIENCE 1. At least 3 years experience as a surveyor with preference to experience in Open Cast Mining environment (mineral sands or coal mining preferred) 2. At least 1 year in a Supervisory/Leadership position 4. COMPETENCIES TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES LIBRARY KNOWLEDGE Mine Design — Basic knowledge of mine design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision mine plans/designs. Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. Mining, Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, mining, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximising the effective production of product. Plant Operations –Knowledge of and understanding of the plant operations. Mathematics — Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
