MP WHO ASSAULTED A POLICE OFFICER NOW CLAIMS HIS LIFE IS IN DANGER.. Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri now claims his life is in danger for allegedly spearheading the fight against corruption in the police service. The MP made the remarks yesterday after spending a night in the cells following his appearance in a Nakuru court where he was charged with assaulting a traffic police woman. The MP claimed his fight against exortion in the force has put him on the collision course with powerful enemies. “I believe that my life is in danger as there are people who are not happy with my crusade against corruption in the force,” he said during a press conference in Nakuru after his release from police custody. However, Ngunjiri is yet to make a complaint to the police. The MP was on Friday remanded in custody after he denied five counts of assaulting a traffic police officer and defying lawful order. At the press conference yesterday, the MP was accompanied by James Maina Mugo, the Executive Director of Social Watch, who said the organisation had sought the MP’s help to fight corruption among police in Nakuru. “There is massive corruption especially among officers in Nakuru and we have even written to the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission( EACC) seeking their assistance on the issue,” Maina said Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo’s statement giving powers to officers to use force when under threat could be misused by the officers. “Are we going back to the dark days of extra judicial killings? he posed.
