MPA suspended over fake degree The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday suspended the provincial assembly membership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Arif Mehmood Gill for holding a fake degree. A three-member bench of the court, consisting of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, heard the fake degree case. Arif Mehmood Gill of the PML-N was declared winner from PP-56, Samundri, Faisalabad after he secured 49,402 votes in general elections of May 2013. Muhammad Younas, a voter from the same constituency, had challenged the victory of Gill in the Supreme Court, claiming that the MPA holds a fake degree. On Wednesday, the court suspended the provincial assembly membership of Gill after Raja Aamir Abbas, counsel for the petitioner, produced a report of the Faisalabad district and sessions judge, wherein intermediate certificate of Gill was declared fake. Raja Aamir Abbas told the court that despite the fact that Gill was disqualified under articles 62 and 63 of the constitution, he was still a provincial assembly member.
