MSU STUDENT UP FOR AWARDS HARARE - Midlands State University (MSU) student Tafadzwa “Croft” Furusa has garnered two Midlands Music Awards nominations. Croft has been nominated in the Best Music Video category where he will battle it out with Mathias Mhere, Goodchild and DJ Stavo. The Gweru-based musician is also in the running for the Best Gospel Artiste Award along with Mathias Mhere and Trymo Mutodza. The Midlands Music Awards winners will be announced on June 28. The business studies student, who was recently included by the United States of America-based Angels of Melody radio among the station’s 12 top African gospel artistes, is delighted by the recognition that is coming his way. “I can`t describe the feeling in words. It is amazing to know that people out there actually give an ear to Christian rap,” said the upcoming musician. “Christian rap has not been getting its due recognition. These two nominations are two steps forward for all those who spread the good news of Jesus Christ through rap.” Croft, though acknowledging the quality of his competitors, believes that he is equally competitive. “Mathias is a great artiste, and the outcome of competing against him for these awards is very unpredictable; I would say it’s 50/50,” he told the Daily News. “Our styles are totally different thus making this race quite interesting and tough. We all put in tonnes of hard work and now it is up to the listening public to decide who to vote for.” The 25-year-old gospel rapper is confident that the nominations are signs of a brighter music future. “I think I am well-placed to eventually become one of Zimbabwe’s most influential music producers and artistes. It is going to take a lot of hard work, discipline and determination to achieve this.” Croft, who is the founder of the six-year old Guardian Records Recording Studio, has three albums to his name which are Kiss of an Angel (2009), Lost in You (2011), and his latest offering, Elevated (2013).
