#MTC_FAQs : Frequently Asked Questions QUESTION : HIGH DATA USAGE? Answer : We have received several complaints pertaining to the apparent high data usage, especially on handsets. Being a customer-centric company and in line with our customer expectations, we recently conducted random tests with our own devices and also in conjunction with several customers who has visited our offices. We also compared several accounts’ current usage against past usage and came across the following plausible explanations and scenarios relating to applications that might use more data as follows: : SPEED TEST TYPE APPLICATIONS - 4G applications seem to transmit more data than when the handset is on 3G. : MAPPING APPLICATIONS - We sometimes tend to not close applications once we have used them, your mapping application does consume more data when left open, especially if you selected the Hybrid mode where the street maps and area photos are downloaded. : EMAIL - Do not use PUSH notifications on any of your email accounts, if possible. If needed, only download emails once the application is active, do not choose the setting “No Limit” or “Unlimited”. : FACEBOOK - Limit notifications to family and some of the corporate FB pages to ensure minimal data activity and usage. : GPS ACTIVITY - Only allow important Applications such as Photos, FB, WhatsApp to link to your GPS location, all the other applications are not to be activated. : CLOUD TYPE SERVICES - Disable all cloud based services, unless necessary. Do not automatically synch with any of these services, including Drop-Box. If you need to do a backup, we advise that you only turn this on for a specific period and turn it off after syncing or backing-up your data. : SOFTWARE UPDATES - We advise that you disable automatic updates to either new interfaces or new applications.
