MTN DRIVE CHAT: Marriage is a divine institution which was ordained by God right from the creation story in the Garden of Eden when He created Eve to be a helper to Adam. As part of the vows that are said during marriage ceremonies, especially during Church weddings (also referred to as the white wedding), the couple are expected to be together ‘for better or worse’ and ‘no man is to put asunder what God has put together.’’ In a report published by Ghana web (Saturday 3rd September, 2011), statistics from the Greater Accra Head Office of Legal Aid Ghana said at least, 40% of marriages registered annually in the region break up within a spate of 14 months. Similar figures have been recorded by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and other Assemblies nationwide. Cases of divorce have become so rampant and widespread, even in Christian marriages that some Men and Women of God are not spared. Despite the series of counseling sessions that are held for would be couples in their churches, divorce is still on the increases. This afternoon on our community DRIVE CHAT, we are asking, what seems to be accounting for the increasing divorce rates? Are people marrying for the wrong reasons? Are expectations not being met? Or are people not just taking this institution serious?
