MTN introduces Android smartphones MTN has introduced two Android smartphones to the Nigerian market. They are MTN Sm@rt Mini S620 and MTN Sm@rt S720i. The company said the introduction of the phones was part of its effort to create a new digital world and establish its leadership position in the ICT and telecommunications sectors. The General Manager, Consumer Marketing, MTN, Kola Oyeyemi, explained that the strategic focus for the introduction of the smartphones was to afford Nigerians the opportunity to own an Android phone at the most affordable price, without breaking a bank or buying an inferior cloned smartphones. He said, “We are committed to the total satisfaction of our customers and Nigerians in general, as we continuously bring the bold new digital world closer to them. This we shall continue to do by breaking the barrier of entry to smartphones that deliver internet access and true value to Nigerians.” The new MTN Sm@rt Mini S620 smartphone has a 3.5” screen and runs on Android 4.2 OS with preloaded applications including BBM, Whatsapp, Music+, Facebook, Jumia etc, plus free MTN SIM card. It has a processor speed of 1GHz, a 4Gig in-built memory up scalable to 32GB and a dual SIM slot. Oyeyemi stated that for more advanced customers seeking wider display screen and higher processing power, the MTN Sm@rt S720i offers a 4.0” display and 1.3GHz processor. With the introduction of these smartphones, Oyeyemi stated that Nigerians would now chat with friends, family members using several instant messaging, and communication platforms including BBM, Whatsapp, Skype, LinkedIn, Facebook Messenger, Tango, Badoo, as well as enjoy up to one million apps and games. “There is no doubt that this smartphone is a game changer and a long-awaited revolution in Nigerian market. “Most importantly, it is one of the various ways we are keeping to our vision of taking the lead in the delivery of a Bold New Digital World and making our customers’ lives a lot better, while making efforts to eradicate substandard phones in the country,” Oyeyemi added.
