MUHAMMAD: A MERCY, NOT A KILLER Many orientalists particularly the critics of Islam have been very unfair in their analysis of Islam because most of them have used the negative behaviour of some Muslims to judge Islam rather than using Islam to judge those Muslims. Those critics have presented Islam in a very bad light and portrayed it as violent religion that was spread by sword on the one hand and the Quran on the other. These persons deliberately concealed the facts that those wars fought by the Prophet of Islam was done purely for self-defence against those who took arms against Islam because they did not want it †ơ͡ exist. One of the greatest injustices done †ơ͡ Islam by the critics is that they equally concealed the facts that it was the prophet of Islam that brought sanity to the art of warfare. Professor K.S. Ramakrishna Rao, a Hindu professor in his book titled: Muhammad: The Prophet of Islam, vindicated Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in the following words: “In age of barbarism, the battlefield itself was humanized and strict instructions were issued not to embezzle, not †ơ͡ cheat, not †ơ͡ break trust, not †ơ͡ mutilate, not †ơ͡ kill a minor child or a woman or an old man, not †ơ͡ hew down date palm nor burn it, not †ơ͡ cut down a fruit tree, not †ơ͡ molest monks and persons engaged in worship (not necessarily Muslims). His own treatment of his better enemies was the noblest example for his followers. At the conquest of Mecca, he stood at the zenith of his power. The city which had tortured him and his followers, which had driven him and his people into exile and which had unrelentingly persecuted and boycotted him even when he had taken refuge in a place more than 200miles, that city now lay at his feet. By laws of war he could have justly avenged all the cruelties inflicted on him and his people. But what treatment did he meet out on them? Muhammad’s heart overflowed with milk of love and kindness as he declared..... ‘This day, there is no reproof against you and you are all free!’. ” Wasnt this man a MERCY unto the whole world? Salallahu Alaehi WaSalaam BARKA DA JUMU’AH!!!
