MULLAGHBAWN 1-10 FORKHILL 0-12 Losing out to neighbours - TopicsExpress

MULLAGHBAWN 1-10 FORKHILL 0-12 Losing out to neighbours Mullaghbawn by the narrowest of margins means Forkhill`s promotion prospects to Division One still hang in the balance. After a bright, promising opening, the village struggled to retain their freeflowing attacking style delivering good early ball into their frontline players. Consequently, their scoring chances were limited especially in the opening half when their opponents clearly had the edge. In the opening stages Forkhill were moving the ball quickly especially down the left flank and were opening up the Mullaghbawn defence. By the end of the first quarter they led by 4 points to 2. However their opponents began to win more possession around the middle and were making pacey runs to open up the Forkhill rearguard with their quick combination play. During this spell, the home side had the edge and rattled off 1-4 to open up a clear lead. Coming up to the interval, the village hit back with 2 quick points to leave the half time scoreline reading 1-6 to 0-6 in Mullaghbawn`s favour. Forkhill rallied on the restart and had tagged on 3 points without reply in the opening 10 minutes. In the last few minutes they had drawn level and a draw looked likely. Unfortunately conceding a last minute free gave Mullaghbawn the chance to snatch the winner. Even though this was an off day by Forkhill`s high standards, they did really well to almost force a draw. We now must wait for the results of other top of the table fixtures to see if promotion is on the cards. However, it pans out, what a great season our Senior team has given us after winning Division 3A in 2013 and now with a chance of promotion to Division 1- all in the space of one season! Such outstanding progress can only be achieved by great commitment, skill and will to win kept up by this Senior squad over the long, demanding season that has been 2014
