MY 2014 NFL Mock Draft (Top 15) Jan 16 2014 1. Houston (2-14) – Teddy Bridgewater QB Louisville 2. St. Louis – (from Washington) (3-13) – Jake Matthews OT Tex A&M 3. Jacksonville (4-12) – Johnny Manziel QB Tex A&M 4. Cleveland (4-12) - HaSean HaHa Clinton-Dix S Alabama 5. Oakland (4-12)- Jadeveon Clowney DE South Carolina 6. Atlanta (4-12) - Greg Robinson OT Auburn 7. Tampa Bay (4-12) - Eric Ebron TE UNC 8. Minnesota (5-10-1) - Justin Gilbert CB OK State 9. Buffalo (6-10) - Khalil Mack OLB Buffalo 10. Detroit (7-9) - Taylor Lewan OT Michigan 11. Tennessee (7-9) – CJ Mosley LB Alabama 12. New York Giants (7-9) – Anthony Barr OLB UCLA 13. St. Louis (7-9) – Blake Bortles QB UCF 14. Chicago (8-8) - Darqueze Dennard CB Michigan State 15. Pittsburgh (8-8) – Sammy Watkins WR Clemson Note: I fully expect St. Louis to trade the second overall selection to the highest bidder for Clowney. I would say Atlanta would be the best candidate. I also expect Cleveland to trade away their fourth overall selection, I presume for a team trading up for Watkins, Manziel or Barr. Browns should go into this draft targeting Strong Safety, ILB, and WR before they go QB. And it would be a Browns move to reach for a position of need over the best overall prospect. Also mock drafting Watkins to Pittsburgh at 15 is a pipe dream and shows you how much of a homer I am. Watkins has very little chance of making out of the top 10 selections. Rare talents like him go in the top 10. Same can be said with Anthony Barr who should be battling Mack to be the first OLB off the board. Both should go to teams with an odd front (3-4 Defenses) and get drafted in the top 10. Kelvin Benjamin from FSU is another player I left out of this top 15 mock draft but very well could sneak in depending on his combine numbers. If Benjamin can run a good 40, say in the 4.5-4.7 range teams will be willing to trade away the farm to get him. To me, at this point he compares to Stephen Hill, who was drafted 43rd overall in the 2012 draft by the Jets and is still a work progress. Benjamin has a lot more pub than Hill did because he caught the game winning TD in the national championship game whereas Hill was stuck playing in a triple option at Georgia Tech. Mock Drafts are impossible to predict prior to free agency, there will be some big names on the open market and will directly impact how these teams look at the 2014 NFL Draft. Still it is fun to make up these mock drafts, I will get my full first round Mock out over the weekend, after the championship games. I will also release my top 50 prospects later this month, ranking all the draftable prospects in order of how I project their NFL talent.
