MY BEST FRIEND ANITA GHULAM ALI: We never met. In one of my TV interviews, probably PTV, I was talking about my student life in Istanbul (Turkey), about my affiliation with Turkish students political organization, my arrests, fights with officers in Pakistani consulate, and escape to Syria etc. After two days of the interview I received a phone call, there was a lady on line, “Kiya aap Shah Jehan Sahib hain?” (Are you Mr. Shah Jehan). We talked for few minutes, she mentioned my TV interview.. “Shah Jehan my name is Anita Ghulam Ali, I was there in Istanbul at that time, I remember your problem with consulate, everyone was relieved when you disappeared and ……”. I knew her name and fame but couldnt figure out why she has to call a person like me with no fame and name in any field. We discussed lots of things about Turkish politics, culture, education etc. After few days I called her.. “..Anita jee main Shah Jehan hon…kesee hain aap”. She replied..“konsa shah Jehan? Kahan se?. Oh god she doesn’t remember me.. “jee..woh..TV..Turkey wala”. And then she recollected… “oooh Shah Jehan sahib……”. And then we had a long discussion on different topics. I enjoyed her Urdu. Our telephonic conversations went on for years. She would invite me to Karachi and I promised after every telephonic conversation for so many years…but that never happened till her death. What a shame I never kept my promise, missed the company of a legend. (Hamesha der kar deta hon main)
