MY BIO FROM 2005: David P. France was born in Baltimore, Maryland to a family of artists. He is a lawyer, producer, dancer and advocate of the arts in New York City. France graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in International Relations in 1989 and from the JD/MBA program at Tulane University in 1999. France is the Founder and Chair of the Penn Media Summit, which was held at the Museum of Television & Radio in 2002 and at the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center in 2003. This years Penn Media Summit 2005 will be held both in New York City and Los Angeles. France is also the co-Chair of 250-In-5 Fundraising Initiative for the DuBois College House Scholars Fund, which so far has raised pledges and donations of over $1,000,000 for minority scholarship since its inception in 2000. In the Fall of 2004, France received the newly created Young Alumni Award from his alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania. The recent efforts recognized by Penn were born from the variety of different work experiences developed over many years and included marketing positions with companies such as MTV, Virgin Records, Columbia Records as well as work with the Agency for International Development in Washington, DC. Perhaps it was being selected as a production intern for the Charlie Rose Show after graduating from law and business school, which became the critical factor in Frances decision to become a producer. In March 2000, France landed a job at MSNBC as a guest booker, researcher and segment producer for its breaking news programming and news shows, which included Soledad OBrien, Ashleigh Banfield, Lester Holt, Dan Abrams and Brian Williams as hosts. News stories worked on while at MSNBC included Elian Gonzalez, the Bush/Gore Presidential Election 2000, the Florida Presidential Election Recount, the Olympics and the Sean Puffy Combs gun possession trial. In the Spring of 2001, France pitched and assisted in the MSNBC production of a special Jennifer Lopez Headliners and Legends program using footage which he videotaped during her 30th Birthday thrown by Mr. Combs. During the Summer of 2001, France was asked to become the talent booker for MetroTVs New York Central, a show that focused on celebrity, entertainment, culture and nightlife in New York City. His talent bookings and produced segments included interviews with Christina Ricci, Rob Schneider, Dionne Warwick, Bernard Goetz, Nona Hendryx, & Diane Von Furstenberg. Currently, France is developing a number of media projects that include the exploration of a global internet radio platform. He is also developing arts and dance programming ideas with Ms. von Furstenberg for her theatre space in the West Village.
