MY GOOD PEOPLE OF UGHELLI NORTH, LET US VOTE FOR NATHANIEL DORTIE BECAUSE NA HIM BE THE ONLY CANDIDATE WHEN SABI ROAD. HE IS THE ONLY CANDIDATE WITH A CLEAR VISION OF WHAT IT TAKES TO LEAD UGHELLI NORTH EFFECTIVELY TO THE PROMISE LAND. HE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT HAVE A WONDERFUL AGENDA THAT TOUCH EVERY PART OF THE SOCIETY. UGHELLI NORTH LGA CHAIRMAN; MY AGENDA. If I am privileged to become the elected chief employee of Ughelli North Local government Council, I will pursue the following objectives; ON ACCOUNTABILITY: • I will personally sign a pre-office resignation document enforceable in the event that I fail to deliver on my promises within the stated timeline. • The account of the Local government council will be published on the internet with monthly statements declaring all income and detailing all expenditure as and when disbursed. • A process will be put in place that will ensure transparency in contract sourcing and procurement. ON JOBS: • Within the first 2 years of assuming office, we will be bringing in a company into the local government that will manufacture Farm Tractors and other specialized machinery with about 80% locally sourced materials both from DSC or Ajaokuta and our various Rubber factories. This company will provide employment, transfer vital technologies and absorb our trained youths into the work force. Discussion with this Irish organisation is actually at advanced stage. • We will build ‘INNOVATION CENTRES’ all around the LGA just like ‘mechanic villages’ where we will train mechanics, welders, fabricators, etc and offer services to the public in return for money. The training will be free and we will bring in both local and Urhobos in Diaspora who have the technical skills to accomplish this objective. Grandaunts will be assisted to start off and provided with the funds to buy set up equipment. • We will establish ‘JOB INNOVATION CENTRES’ and actively seek ideas from all and sundry on possible ideas toward creating job opportunities for job seekers in the LGA. We will institute a ‘Youth brigade’ that will be saddled with miscellaneous casual labour and provide holiday jobs for our students on holidays. • Lastly, we hope to commence internship program for our undergraduates both within Nigeria and even internationally. We will explore the possibility of Twinning and Youth Exchange programs that will expose and benefit our youths. ON ACCESSING INFORMATION: • Firstly, we will within the first year of assuming office, make sure that there is free internet access for all residents. The local government will install free WiFi hotspots in all major towns and villages. Particularly, all secondary schools will have computer labs equipped with free internet access across the LGA. • We will establish ‘Career guidance and Counselling’ centres and organise annual events where we will invite motivational speakers, public figures and other role models to guide our youths on possible future pathways. • Thirdly, subject to the licence approval from the National Broadcasting Commission, the council will establish a radio station dedicated to broadcasting, promoting and proliferating Urhobo culture, social events, education etc. Within and beyond the LGA. ON EDUCATION AND SPORTS AND CULTURE: • On education, the council will establish functional education centres to train and equip our youths in IT, Robotic / hydraulic technologies and provide an enabling environment for achieving innovation. In collaboration with some organisation within Nigeria and some Urhobo people in Diaspora such as Prof Otitigbe and Steve Dieseruvwe, we will provide certifiable and functional education through these centres. • Within the first year also, we will establish an annual soccer event in the form of a mini league between all the clans of Urhobo land. The council will be involved in the promotion, organisation and the award of souvenir to participating communities and individuals. • The Council will be actively engaged in promoting and protecting our cultural heritage. We will encourage our communities to partake in cultural festivities and help to promote such in the social and print media. ON THE ENVIRONMENT: • We will seek to protect our environment and strive for sustainable development. The council will actively engage in urban development and rural sustainability. • More work will be done to improve urban and rural planning such that all street within the LGA will need to meet approved planning standards and enforced as such. • Our Markets and Parks will receive better attention and the council will be seriously engaged in maintaining, cleaning and redesigning these public places.
