MY LIFE LIMNED IN VERSE My life I now focus through the lens of poetry, To reduce to a spawn of intense light the passion for humanity, That drives my quixotic, futile quest; As I attempt to communicate to my deluded, DEPENDENT peers, The gift, the benefits, the joys that would accrue from a civilized, cooperative existence. My life is currently delineated in verse, For thus is obscured the drama unfolding, Of incalculable value and priceless beauty lying in ambush, For beings who cannot decipher or traverse The narrow pass of rationality to function and freedom. My life I now record and perceive through the veil of poetry, To privatize my ubiquitous grief and sorrow, To obfuscate and conceal from the elusive shadows surrounding me the trickle of tears, That threatens to become an immense and ominous deluge, Drowning all my hopes, my dreams and most cherished aspirations. I SURRENDER - TO LOVE!!! YOU, on various and variegated occasions have been, an Ebony challenge, an Oriental mystery, A Caucasian super ordinate, a Latin dilemma, or, my National Treasure. Always have I been discomfited and discombobulated by your very appearance, Shattered and shamed by your rejection, Eviscerated and diminished by your distance and disdain, But never have I been casual or unconcerned. During our myriad and manifold confrontations the victory Has ever been yours, I am no closer To deciphering the puzzle of your manifest subtleties and inconsistencies Than on the happy event of our first involuntary encounter. But my need for you, if anything, has grown stronger. Your early absence prompted deprivation and behavioral aberrations, Triggered inadequacies that a lifetime of striving has not overcome; Later contacts precipitated intense emotions and, an irredeemable fascination, An awe that was almost worshipful, passions transcendent and sometimes destructive, In this contest, the victory is yours you have clearly WON Will you communicate to me, finally, belatedly, What I could do to be deserving of your commitment, your loyalty, your enduring fidelity And, most of all, of your LOVE? Words! So many beautiful words, I have never utilized; So many succinct, meaningful phrases, I have never deployed; A plethora of unrealized potentials. Always ready to engender, Even as they describe and elucidate, An irrational fury or a lonely, disembodied state, A nameless, obscure feeling or a happy, useful fate. I am so happy to exist, Bemused, enthralled - a single thread in a vast, endless, creative tapestry, Imagining, crafting and shaping, minute impassioned contributions to the prose and poetry That devolves into and joyfully becomes The Wonderland of Literature.
