MY SOUTH AFRICA ADVENTURE - DAY 1 AND DAY 2- I encouraged my god-daughter Chmeka Hodge to assist me in keeping a daily journal of our adventures to share with everyone. Our entourage to South Africa consisted of myself; my son Gerald; my goddaughters - Chimeka and Tyra; and my son Brandons goddaughter Mya. We left Jacksonville Monday, June 9th around 5:pm and arrived in Johannasburg (Joburg) on Tuesday, June 10th around 5 pm. Joburg is 6 hours ahead of my EST in Florida, which meant when we arrived at 5 in Joburg it was 11:00 am in Jax, It was a 16 hour flight, which I must say wasnt bad. We slept most of the night. Of course Brandon was at the airport when we arrived. It was so good seeing him and we anticipate a wonderful adventure in S Africa. Also, it was winter in S Africa and the weather was cold, in the 50s. Brandon had encouraged us to bring a jacket so I was prepared. Once we dropped our luggage off at Brandons home we went to dinner at The Green Peppercorn Bistro. The food was superb and the deserts were to die for. The restaurant had a very contemporary feel. DAY 2 - A few things that kept throwing me for a loop: The driving is on the opposite side of the road and the drivers seat is where the passenger seat is in the States. So as a true American it was difficult for me every time I step inside of our tour van. For the record Jet Lag is real! And I felt it! Day 2 was my first time seeing Joberg in the broad daylight. Its beautiful and reminded me of New York City (Manhattan). Joberg is very modern and industrialized, and there is a lot of construction in process. Its definitely not what I expected and I can see myself returning back here. Great restaurants, great shopping, lots of scenery and friendly people. We had lunch at a restaurant in Santon Mall and the mall resembled any upscale mall back in the States. Day 2 we also visited the Origins Centre Museum.
