MY SWEET PEPPER LAND Following the fall of Saddam Hussein, Buran (Korkmaz Arslan), a former Kurdish war hero, leaves the capital of Ebril to become the new Sheriff in Kamrian. The village lies on the mountainous borders of Iran, Turkey and Iraq and is at the heart of corruption and illegal trade. Buran and his lover (Golshifteh Farahani, The Patience Stone, SFF 2013), the local school teacher, are both rejected by the village and become targeted by the notorious warlord, Aziz Aga. The latest work from director Hiner Saleem, the legend of Kurdish cinema, MY SWEET PEPPER LAND borrows from classic westerns in a beautiful portrayal of love and honour.
