*Macon County Weather Briefing for Sunday, January 25, 2015* High pressure will give us a short break from the rain today before a clipper from the northwest will bring us another chance at rain and snow Monday. High pressure is expected to return and dominate our local weather pattern through the end of the week. *TODAY* Mostly sunny, increasing clouds in the afternoon hours, highs in the mid 40s and winds out of the southeast 5 to 10 mph. 30% chance of rain, mainly in the form of scattered rain showers in the afternoon hours. *HAZARDS* None expected today. There is potential for a small snow event for Monday. I am not expecting much in the way of accumulation for most of us in Macon County. Here is the official Hazardous Weather Outlook that was issued by the National Weather Service Office, please bear in mind that they mostly ignore us in Macon County and focus on the counties bordering Tennessee and the Asheville area when giving forecasts: ..MONDAY...SNOW POSSIBLE. A POTENT CLIPPER SYSTEM WILL SLIDE THROUGH THE GREAT LAKES REGION AND INTO THE APPALACHIANS LATE SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THE DAY ON MONDAY. AMPLE MOISTURE AND COLD THERMAL PROFILES COULD SUPPORT NORTHWEST FLOW SNOW SHOWERS... WITH LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLE. *TONIGHT* Mostly cloudy with lows in the lower 30s and winds out of the southeast 5 to 10 mph. 70% chance of precipitation, with rain and snow expected to arrive after midnight. Snow accumulations up to an inch is possible. I am expecting this to be an event mainly for elevations above 3000 feet. The longer temps remain below freezing, the more accumulation well get. I think the cold air will get here after the moisture leaves our area. :( *MONDAY* Mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 30s and winds out of the northwest 10 to 15 mph, gusting to 30 mph. 50% chance of precipitation. Little or no additional snow accumulation expected below 3000 feet. An inch or two may be possible above 3000 feet. *MONDAY NIGHT* Mostly cloudy, decreasing clouds, lows in the mid 20s and winds 10 to 15 mph, gusting to 35 mph.
