Madison VA Hospital to hold Education and Benefits Fair for veterans Tuesday MADISON, Wis. — Veterans interested in learning more about the benefits they have earned from their service in the U.S. armed forces can shop for information from an array of service providers at a veterans benefit fair Tuesday, Aug. 13, in Madison. The Madison VA Hospital is hosting the Veterans Education and Benefits Fair, which brings together a dozen colleges and universities, along with representatives of the Veterans Affairs Department’s benefits administration, state employment services and the Dane County Veterans Service Office. “Veterans have earned a lot of important and valuable benefits, but they aren’t worth anything to veterans who don’t use them because they don’t know about them,” said Joseph Naylor, outreach coordinator at the Madison VA. “This one-stop shop for benefits will bring veterans and resources together in the same place, and we hope a lot of men and women who have served their country will come and learn how their country is prepared to serve them with the benefits they’ve earned,” Naylor said. The Veterans Education and Benefits Fair will include information tables on education opportunities and discounts, veterans health care, employment assistance, VA benefits and other services offered to the nation’s veterans. The fair is scheduled to run from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Madison VA Hospital’s old main entrance lobby on the first floor. The VA Hospital is located off Campus Drive at 2500 Overlook Terrace, with free on-site parking available in the patient and visitor ramp. “This will also be a great opportunity for recently separated veterans to see firsthand this first-class VA Hospital, and to interact with VA staff members and fellow veterans,” Naylor said. Information on the event is available at 608-256-1901 ext. 11494. William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital is a Madison-based 129-bed facility that provides health care for about 40,000 veterans who live in a 13,625 square mile primary service area comprising 15 counties in south central Wisconsin and five in northwestern Illinois. The hospital operates an annex clinic in Madison and community-based outpatient clinics in Baraboo, Beaver Dam and Janesville, Wis., and in Rockford and Freeport, Ill. The main hospital includes 85 acute care beds, 18 beds in the hospital’s residential rehabilitation treatment program, and a recently opened community living center provides an additional 26 beds for sub-acute transitional care, rehabilitation, and hospice care.
