Magnificat! The song of Mary! The song of Hannah! The song of Sandra, humming the John Rutter version to herself, as she walked back to the tube from the Sisters of Sion convent, in the lovely warm night air of Nottinghill last night! What an amazing birthday! Thank you God. I was so impressed by the Sisters of Our Lady of Sion busy convent community - strong community spirituality, kind, friendly, industrious, academic and dynamic. Sr Anne will be my monthly spiritual director and plans are already in motion to stay at their convent in Ein Karem, Israel this November! And.... the altogether seismic shift in my work prayer group... which by rights, I can no longer describe as anti-Catholic, thanks to the Holy Spirit yesterday. 3 miracles: #1 The group now agrees that based on scripture it is correct to call Mary Blessed. #2 The group now accept Catholics dont actually worship Mary at all, but they do honor her just as the early Church did, #3 The Rosary is not about worshiping The Blessed Virgin Mary and infact its actually all about the life of Jesus direct from scripture and that Lectio Divina reflection too is actually a brilliant way to reflect on scripture. Isnt God great! One little sticking point... try as they might they just couldnt get their heads around accepting that the first miracle of Jesus in Cana is scriptural evidence that it is ok to refer to The Blessed Virgin Mary as intercessor - in fact that part of the group got quite heated. They are not bad people at all but you can see that they feel that if they acknowledge that Mary has a role as intercessor, that this is somehow being disloyal to Jesus. It was so interesting. But wonderfully the group asked if we could continue to talk about this and 2 Social Workers have asked to meet for lunch to talk about this more privately, 1:1! Magnificat! Thanks to all those who prayed for me yesterday, not to mention Annwen Bates, who rang to sing me happy birthday and give me a confidence boost, just as I was setting up the chairs for the presentation - thank you lovely Annwen! God is so, so, so great! xxx youtube/watch?v=ChdPI7H-DI0
