Mahmoud Abbas, elected President of the Palestine Authority, has taken the cause of his people a long way. The previous year has especially been fruitful in garnering support in the United Nations General Assembly, where Abbas enjoyed a majority vote 138-9 on 29 November 2012. As the obvious, inevitable outcome is a two-state solution, Mahmouds demand of a 3 year deadline of Israeli troop withdrawal (made yesterday) seems only reasonable. PM Netanyahu chose to completely ignore this offer, as his representative Mr Bennet reminded a disinterested audience to open the Book of Genesis. Israels primary concern remains a hostile neighbor. Can Israel rely on a state that has failed to prosecute more than 1000 rogue elements? Or any third party for that matter as the US has suggested? Abbas agrees to NATO as the mediator. But Netanyahus stance is firm: “Israel does not have to agree to everything America presents.” and any third party is unacceptable.
