Make A Wish. One evening a group of us, members of our Association, decided to surprise visit the Giza Zoo. Our interest in the place was to restore its original dignity, a botanical garden housing animals and which at one time was the number two Zoo in the world. Getting rid of all the vulgar outlets and grotesque sculptures was top of the list. As we were supported by the then Minister of Agriculture, our visits were always welcomed! That particular evening our tour lasted longer than expected. We remained there till nightfall. Going past the Grotto, I remembered the secret cave and the wishing well inside. At that time a particular official in the Giza Governorate, was giving us trouble. He was not a straightforward person, promising and not fulfilling, evasive and sometimes even causing trouble..... I suggested to the others we go inside and make a wish. Going through the winding passages, we had already decided what that wish would be....... The guards accompanying us waited respectfully outside the cave. They were being discreet. Once inside, we all silently repeated the same wish, Please may this horrible person leave the Governorate, so we can pursue our activities! And one by one we threw our coins in the dark waters. The guards outside were patiently waiting for us. I felt we owed them an explanation. We told them ..... We have all wished for something very very important to happen. And if this happens all Giza Governorate will benefit, and we have also vowed to do so much for the Zoo and the employees, if we get our wish. So join us in wishing. The guards immediately lifted their hands up to the sky and they chorused, يا راب . And so we got our wish..... :)
