Make no mistake - this bill is purely about kicking out the stables so that developers can profit from the land on which they sit. Ordinarily, these greedy developers buy buildings and pressure out old tenants and businesses by raising their rents two-four fold. Here, they dont have that. So, theyve started a cynical campaign. If these developers are so concerned about ethics, wheres that same concern when it comes to the very businesses and communities they constantly destroy? What about when they destroy places that should be landmarked such as Rizoli books and the Subway Inn? What about the disgusting practice of poor doors? The displacement of working class and minority communities throughout the city as these same developers rebrand once-vibrant areas to suit the needs of European investors? No, these people do not care about ethics. They just want the land. New Yorkers should not permit this land grab. City Hall needs to be told that NYers support the carriage horse industry. Those buildings should be zoned for their current use and these developers should be sent packing.
