Malachi 1:8 When you offer blind animals in sacrifice, is that not - TopicsExpress

Malachi 1:8 When you offer blind animals in sacrifice, is that not evil? And when you offer those that are lame or sick, is that not evil? Present that to your governor; will he accept you or show you favor? says the Lord of hosts. (tvo) Here God is saying that in the same way the goverment would not accept a less than full payment of taxes, so God will not accept a lesser sacrifice for our sins. The chapter goes on to say that God rejects us when we offer less than He deserves. Sounds harsh doesnt it? Because deep down, you and I instinctively know that we could never offer enough to satisfy the infintiely righteous and sovereign Creator of the universe. Enter the Gospel, which is the message of Jesus, who is the message of Christmas. God Himself became flesh, in Christ, and became the sacrifice which allows us to be considered righteous by His holy standards. Christ became the sacrifice that regardless of how hard we tried, we would never be able to offer. Now we are no longer rejected, but are accepted as sons and daughters of God. Not because of what we have done in our own power, but because of what Christ has done for us through His power. As you learn to rest in that truth, the truth of the Gospel, you will find yourself more likely to worshipfully serve Him in all that you do.
