Malaysias Ministry of Culture and Arts demanded that comedian Jeff Dunham make changes to his character Achmed the Dead Terrorist before performing in the country. They told him he could not reference virgins or any other words which might contain religious overtones. Jeff says: While I respect the wishes of our host country, Im also an American and a firm believer in the freedom of speech. On the other hand, I wanted to avoid Achmed and getting thrown in jail and being caned. So lets just say that the character that took center stage in Malaysia was strikingly familiar to all in attendance, but it was a last minute twist that became the highlight of the entire tour. Who knew Achmed had a brother? Im glad that what we proved in the Middle East continued in Southeast Asia.
