Malificent- 30 second review: A fun summer movie. Angelina is LETTER PERFECT to play Mal. Incredibly spot on. The numbskull fairies that take care of Aurora are a hoot. There are actually BLACK people in this story. I was happy to see that. Minor quibbles, Aurora is hardly in her sleep-like death long enough to be called Sleeping Beauty. Napping Beauty? Maybe. Some of the animation looked modern and out of place to my eyes. Theres no suspense, hardly any revelations for a movie that promises to tell you the real story. The ending twist was not much of a surprise. (I thought, didnt FROZEN JUST do this?? Isnt Frozen a Disney movie? Why would a major studio let two giant features have the same resolution?) I was literally distracted and thinking about those things during the climactic ending. That being said, I still enjoyed it.
