Mall has new name mycolumbiabasin/common/more.php?m=15&r=11&item_id=50451 WALLA WALLA, WA – Its not the Blue Mountain Mall anymore. The new owners of that property are starting from scratch with a new name, according to Walla Walla City Manager Nabiel Shawa. The new owners are now calling it Walla Walla Town Center, he said. They decided on that name instead of keeping the old Blue Mountain Mall name. Shawa, who speaks regularly with the owners, says interest is high among the retail industry about locating in the facility. Meanwhile, theres been a slight change in priorities for the development. Originally, the owners wanted phase one to concentrate on Rose Street and the second phase to focus on Poplar Street. National chains have committed to both the Gottschalks and Sears buildings on the Rose Street side. However, Shawa says while one is ready to go right away, that company doesnt want to be open on its own. The other national chain does not have time in its construction facility to develop the Sears location until 2015. Shawa says that means the new tenant for the old Gottschalks has decided to wait until 2015 as well. So, now they are shifting the first phase over to the Poplar side and lining up those tenants, Shawa said. Theres activity out there already, but it isnt construction yet. We want to see the buildings start coming out of the ground there in the next 90 to 120 days.
